Professional development: funds and opportunities

Academic Staff

Academic staff have the opportunity to apply for professional development funding. This funding is to focus on individual professional development across different aspects of an academics role. It should be though of as complementary to staff development opportunities available at a university level (see Staff Development  Monash University) and might include for example, specialized courses relating to teaching or specific research methodologies. It is NOT expected to be used to fund attendance at conferences in order to present papers (see Funding to attend academic conferences: 2004-2006)

Staff wishing to apply for funds for professional development should fill in an application form (pdf 11kb), have it signed by their supervisor and submit it with supporting documentation to the office of the Associate Dean (Staff) prior to the professional development activity. Funding will normally be limited to a maximum of $500 per staff member over the period 2005-2007.

General Staff

A General Staff Professional Development fund exists to support the career and development goals of General Staff. Part of the General Staff Performance Management Scheme requires the staff member to set career and development goals for the following 12 month period in conjunction with their supervisor.

Subject to the availability of funds, agreed plans will normally be supported with funds made available through the General Staff Professional Development Fund.
